Obituary of Garrett J. DeYulia

Garrett "Gary" Joseph DeYulia, age 78, of Tiburon, CA, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 from complications of cancer. Born in Syracuse, NY, Gary was a 1966 graduate of Le Moyne College, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his stellar achievement in men's basketball. 

Gary served with distinction with the U.S. Secret Service as a Special Agent from 1968-1988 under five presidents. He retired as Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) of the James J. Rowley Training Center, Beltsville, MD. Gary continued his federal service with the Inspector General's Office at General Services Administration (GSA). While there, he served as Assistant Commissioner of the Federal Protective Service. He went on to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where he established the first Office of Security and Emergency Planning. Gary retired from public service in 2015.

He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Durant in 2019.

Gary is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Garrett Jr. (Lisa) and daughter Danielle; and three grandchildren, Noah, Frances, and Dominic; brother, Thomas R. DeYulia (Bettie) and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and military honors will be 12pm Friday, June 30 at Assumption Cemetery, 2401 Court St., Syracuse, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary's name to Geddes Little League PO BOX 703 Solvay, NY 13209
