Obituary of David R. Seib

David R. Seib August 30, 2011 David R. Seib, 78, of Westvale passed away Tuesday at home surrounded by his family after his battle with ALS. Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Assumption High School, OCC, and attended Syracuse University. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. Dave joined the Syracuse Police Department in 1955 and retired as a Lieutenant after 21 years. He was then appointed Chief of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department Criminal Division. He would retire after 14 years. Dave was a Dale Carnegie Instructor for many years. He was a parish council member and Eucharistic minister at St. Brigid and St. Joseph Church. Dave was a member of the Turner's Club and Park Social Club. He loved Syracuse sports, the Yankees and camping at Brennan Beach. He was an avid gardener and home remodeler. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Anna Seib, brother, Donald, sisters, Joan and Shirley, and daughter in law, Christine. Survivors: his wife of 58 years, the former Jenien C. LaBarge; daughters, Donna (Pat) Michaud, Debora (Steve) Cooper, Diane Seib, Dawn (Tom) Nolan; sons, David H. Seib, Donald Seib, Daniel Seib, Dennis (Deb) Seib, Douglas (Renee) Seib; brother, Harold (Jenny) Seib; 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and in laws. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday at Tindall Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Brigid-St. Joseph Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Brigid & St. Joseph Food Pantry, 318 Herkimer St., Syracuse, NY 13204
