Dear Halpin Family,
I am so sorry that Jane is gone and for what you are going through right now. May your grief be short lived.
It is with great fondness that I recall one visit home where Jane & Bill let me use their car instead of renting one. In exchange, I would drive them here and there as needed that week. Jane always insisted that the errand include a meal, usually a late lunch/early dinner. I had such a great time hanging out with Jane & Bill, such good people.
Whenever I'd pop over to the house, Jane would insist that I have a sip of wine (I'm more of a beer-person), but we'd enjoy a little Zin or Chardonnay and a lot of chit chat!
Jane: bless you for your kindness, rest well.
God: thank you for Jane, and for letting us have her for a little while. Please take special care of her, she deserves it! And, while you're at it (sorry, I know you must be busy!), but if you could find a way to ease the sorrow that Jane's friends and family are feeling, that'd be great! Thanks.
With much love, -Erin
ps: I'll take comfort thinking of Jane and my mom catching up with each other!

I'm writing with a mixture of sadness and appreciation at Jane's passing. She was a wonderfully kind and thoughtful mother and grandmother. No man could have a better mother-in-law. I will miss her good company, advice and compassion. We have many fine memories of her visits to Arizona that can make us smile even as we regret her absence so much.
I regret my inability to be there this day. My deepest sympathies to Poppa Bill, my wife Mary and her brothers, and all the rest of Jane's family. May God give her the peace that she deserves and comfort those who both loved and miss her today. She will be in my prayers and thoughts.
Sincerely, Mike.

Dear Bobby and Patty,
On behalf of our entire family,I would like to extend our sincere sympathies for the loss of your mother and mother-in-law. My mom was surprised to learn of your loss just today, as she doesn't usually read the obituaries in the paper. It sounds like your mom was a beautiful human being, and she is at peace now. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Carol and sisters, Delores and Lenny Checkosky

I remember Jane as a gracious, kind and friendly lady who made you feel special. I met her through the Tom Dooley Choraliers where my husband sang along with hers. I remember the good times that we had at those functions and the fun trips that we took. I know that she will be missed by everyone who knew her, including me. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to you, Bill and all of your family. May God comfort you, and keep Jane in His care.

Dear Mom,
After our departure from the burial grounds, we decided to go on a momorial journey for you, Mom.
The journey began at your beloved village of Solvay. Where as kids we always assumed that Solvay is where the civilization of mankind began. Since everyone of your friends or anyone we met through you had Solvay roots!
Our first stop was at your childhood home at 206 Caroline Ave. The house looks great and is well maintanied. We recall how the house was always a yellow ochre color with a slight coating of Solvay Process soot. Caroline Avenue had a rich ethnic population consisting of mainly Irish, Italian and Austrian (Tyrols) families. We reminised of your stories of your childhood and teen years with all your friends in Solvey. We remarked how you all remained friends all your lives. That is truly an honorable tribute to the good person and friend you are Mom! There was Mary Gettino, Peg Hogan, Rita Benedatti, Grace Erwin, Mary Neary, Jean Brock along with Jane McKeg, just to name a few! We were thankful you had Italian friends that shared their recipes.
We moved on from Caroline Avenue around the corner to Conklin St. There we came upon that little variety store with the stone front. We recalled how you could make easy access to it through your backyards and the alley way behind Burn's. That is where you use to purchase your favorite childhood candy of "Mary Janes", five for a penny!
Traveling a half block west on Conklin Street brought us to Prospect School where you attended K-5. We recalled how you were nine years old when some girl pushed your head when you were at the drinking fountain and chipped your tooth. You told us how much it upset your mom more than you.
Next we ventured from Prospect School across LaMont Avenue to the old "Zagarellis" store which was another one of your childhood haunts for penny candy.
From there we follwed Woods Road and passed the Solvay Library where your dad would spend much of his time reading and educating himself. You would always tell us how proud you were of him. You would tell us how intelligent he was along with being very handsome! Sounds like he was a fortunate man to have a daughter that was so proud of him!
We then stopped at the old location of the Hazard St. Midddle School where you attended 6th-8th grade (the present Solvay Elementary School location). From there we journeyed up to Wycliffe Rd. to School Rd. to the old Solvay High School location which is now a baseball field. We reminisced of how you graduated in January of 1941. There was no yearbook that year (the yearbook was named Yavlos - that's Solvay spelled backwards) because of a paper shortage due to the war. One of your favorites stories was when you and some of your friends were walking home late from school one evening after a Drama Club meeting. You were taking a shortcut over School Rd. hill when a naked man came out of the bushes and chased after you all. It was in the middle of Winter and you all screamed and ran, slipping and sliding in the snow with school books flying everywhere!
From the old high school location, we traveled down Cogswell Ave. to Milton Ave. and back up Woods Rd. to St. Cecila's Church. Fortunately, the doors were opened and we were able to go inside. There you were baptized, made your First Communion, Confirmation, attended religion instruction classes and then married. It is a beautiful church with a rich history and you, Mom and your family are a part of it. We recalled how you told us that the Irish of Solvay built St. Cecelia's. It was evident by the names of the families on the stained glass windows. The large life statues were still in place except for St. Theresa (with the glass eyeballs)! We recalled how you told us that whenever you and Aunt Rita would act up in church, that your mother would raise her voice a couple octives while praying her "Hail Mary's". That was your cue to settle down and be quiet. What a beautiful church!
After departing from Solvay we made our way to Fairmount to the old "Carlo's" where you attended religiously every Friday to get your hair done. Mary recalled how she loved to accompany you there and be able to listen to Tom Jone's music during your appointment. It was your special mother-daughter time with each other.
Our memorial journey concluded at Wegman's in Western Lights. We walked through the store and recalled the names of all the people you would run into and stop to converse with. How a one hour shopping trip would turn into three! We would be begging you at the turn of each aisle to please don't stop and talk anymore! It is so true that you never met a stranger! From Maine to Mexico and over to Ireland!
Mom, we love you and miss you so very much! Thank you for being a wonderful and loving mother! Thanks for the memories!
Love Always,
John, Mary, Mike and Linda

Mom,
I wanted to brag about you at your service. I knew I would never make it through.I can't even write this without loosing it.I'll keep it short. You are my sister, my best friend and my mentor. We had too much together to put into words. I know you know what we had was strong, real and could not be broken. We had a bond few could understand, something special. You are in my thoughts and heart with every breath I take. I miss you so much it hurts.I have been told it gets easier, I am finding it gets harder each day.I know you would not want any of us to be sad,it is not possible... Thank you for being you and all you have taught me.It does help knowing you are in a peaceful place.
All my love,
Your daughter Mary
