Obituary of Joseph W. Ryan
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph W. Ryan, 84, of Minoa, beloved husband and father, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 26. He was born on December 10, 1930 to William T. and Sophia G. (Loguski) Ryan. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #129 at St. Brigid and St. Joseph Church in Syracuse and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy. From there, he entered the United States Air Force, serving with the 108th AC & W in Newfoundland during the Korean conflict. He received his honorable discharge July 9, 1953 and entered SUNY Morrisville Ag & Tech. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in electrical technology and went to work for the New York Central Railroad. He was union leader during his tenure, and retired from ConRail.
Joe loved watching sports and cable news programming with his daughter, and hunted and fished in his youth. His back yard garden was his pride and joy, and mornings and evenings during warmer weather, that's where he could be found. He was a lay minister, Eucharistic minister, and usher at the St. Brigid and St. Joseph Church. He was a life-long Democrat and a member of the Town of Manlius Democratic Committee. He was also a member of American Legion Post #1102. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his "grandbird," Callie, who has been staring at his chair every day waiting for him to reappear.
Joe is survived by his wife, the former Delores S. Korzeniewski, and his daughter, Christine M.; two sisters, Shirley A. Halpin (Jim) of Alexandria, VA, and Monica A. Leonik of East Syracuse, NY; a sister-in-law, the former Marcia A. Waskiewicz of Syracuse, NY; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother, William M. Ryan, in 1995.
