John J. Foley, Jr., 79, of Lyncourt, passed away on July 16, 2015 at Crouse Hospital. John was born in Syracuse and grew up on the west end. As a young man he was active in St. Lucy's Church. He played basketball for St. Lucy's Academy until his graduation in 1955. John worked at General Electric for over 35 years. He retired in 1993. He also worked part-time at P&C in Dewitt and Murbro parking in downtown Syracuse. John was a former member of the Pastime Athletic Club. He was a devoted NY Yankees and SU fan. His joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He spent many summers vacationing on DeRuyter Lake with his immediate and extended family and spoke fondly of these memories. John was a hardworking father and husband who was known for having a kind heart. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Barbara Foley, and his brother George Foley. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth (Dickey) Foley; daughters, Carolyn (Michael) Kenyon, and Mary (Ryan) Carlisle; son, Kevin Foley, grandchildren, Adrianna and Alyssa Carlisle; brother Robert (Dolores) Foley; cousins, John (Joann) McMahon and Jim (Rosalie) McMahon; an aunt, cousins, and many nieces and nephews. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Lucy's Church, 432 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
