Obituary of Dorothy K. Himpler Akkoul Smorol

Dorothy Katherine Smorol, 89, of Westvale, passed away on February 20, 2015. Dorothy was born on March 22, 1925 to Frank and Mary (Henchen) Himpler of Solvay. Dorothy graduated from Solvay High School and will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. "Mrs. Akkoul" was the long-time crossing-guard at St. Charles School in Westvale, a post she proudly served for many years. Later, Dorothy gave friendship and comfort to many as the receptionist at St. Camillus Rehabilitation Center. Music always filled Dorothy's home. She was an accomplished pianist as well as a talented seamstress. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards – especially bridge and pitch. Her greatest joy was entertaining family and friends at her home. Dorothy was predeceased by her husbands, George Akkoul and Raymond Smorol; son, Ronald Akkoul; sisters, Thelma Himpler and Mary Louise Storie, and brother, Frank Himpler. Survivors: Left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Akkoul of Syracuse and John (Beth) Akkoul of Solvay; daughter, Sharon Akkoul (Vincent Scarantino) of Westvale; eight grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, brothers, Robert, Edward (Marianne), and Paul Himpler; sisters, Helen Rivers, Florence Schuelke, Carolyn Himpler, and Ruth Howard; many nieces and nephews, Joseph (Jeanne) Tupper, extended family, and friends. Dorothy's family would like to express a special thank you to Angela Getty for all her love and support. We also wish to thank the staff of Hospice of CNY and HOA at Brittonfield, especially Dr. Benjamin Himpler. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tindall Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave, Syracuse where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse.
