Obituary of Harry T. Komrowski

Harry T. Komrowski, 93, passed away January 4, 2015. Born January 29, 1921 to the late August and Ada (Grimsley) Komrowski. Harry attended Solvay High School and grew up in Fairmount, NY. To help feed the family during the Great Depression as a youth, he grew potatoes and hunted wildlife with his twin brother Harold. He was a US Army WWII Battle of the Bulge combat veteran and served on the front lines starting on Christmas Eve 1944 as a Railsplitter, 333rd Infantry, 84th Division.
After the war, he became a builder with his brother Harold and together they constructed numerous homes and apartments in Fairmount, Fulton and Oswego. Both avid hunters, the two brothers built the Mad River Hunting Clubhouse and built their own hunting camps on adjacent land they purchased. They also vacationed together with their families for many years with fond memories of fishing on Black Lake.
Harry was a founding member of the Fairmount Fire Department and served as an active volunteer fireman for over 25 years with two terms as Fire Chief. He was the Zoning Officer, Building Inspector and Fire Marshall for the Town of Camillus and also served on the Fairmount Fire Department Board of Directors and Town of Camillus Planning Board. After his retirement, Harry and Agnes moved to West Monroe, NY in 1980. Harry remained active helping and visiting his children and participating in several veterans organizations where he served as President of the both the NE and National Veterans Railsplitters Societies. He enjoyed deer hunting until his final days.
Survivors: Harry is the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Agnes (Pitoniak) for 73 years. Father of Harry R. (Karen Kaiser), Robert, Marie Rooney (Daniel), Nancy Scroggins (James), Joanne Blasiak (John), Paul (Krissy). Brother of Royal and the late Charles (Alice), George, John (Ruth), Ester, Harold, August and Ethel Peckham (Mark). 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Services: 9:00 am Saturday at Tindall Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY.
