I want to extend my deepest condolences to Peggy's family, friends and colleagues. I met Peggy in May of 1977 when I joined the faculty of ESC and worked at the Urban Study Center in NYC. As part of the old Center for Statewide Programs, mentors from all of the small units traveled to Saratoga Springs each month to meet- we would gather in the evenings, get pizza and open up our rooms(at the Turf and Spa Motel) so that we would be together to share dinner and talk about our students and about our lives. I remember looking forward to being with Peggy and shall always treasure her support as a colleague and her brilliance and warmth as a woman.

Peg was really a mentor to me when I was a junior faculty member at SUNY Empire State College. Peg founded the Watertown Unit, and remained interested in it throughout her career. She was forthright, strong, also kind. She mentored many students, as well as colleagues, and her fine work lives on in them.

Our thoughts to you on the death of Peggy. When my husband was diagnosed with a form of leukemia, our dream of refurbishing our old farmhouse died and Peggy took it on. And, what a job she did, a gift to us. She was so pleased to show us the results not that long ago, another gift. We knew that she was not well and hope that her final time was gentle.
We hope that she knew that the young couple who purchased the house, the young man a former student of ours, are as excited to live there as she was and love every moment. Nate is using the old barn as a workspace to build a table to fill that dining room.
So, life goes on, a lesson for all of us.
