Obituary of Robert H. Woodford

Marcellus has lost a native son. Robert H. Woodford, Esq. passed away after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Janocsko Woodford, two daughters, Cynthia (Dave) Cameron of Syracuse, NY and Susan Woodford Carnathan (Ralph) of Williston, FL, one son, Robert S. Woodford of Syracuse, NY, one granddaughter, Lisa Rogers, one great-granddaughter, Heather Hoalcraft, one great-great grandson, Aiden Col(n, three sisters-in-law, Anna Woodford of Steilacoom, Washington, Myra (Dr. Daniel) Dombroski of Camillus, NY and Diane Kolch of Baldwinsville, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Robin Woodford, his parents Harvey and Dorothy, and his brothers, Emerson and William. A true American, Mr. Woodford is a direct descendant of passengers who arrived on the Mayflower. His Great great grandfather, Aaron Waldron, was the last living Marcellus survivor of the Civil War. As a teen-ager, he gave up the village life to defend his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A sharp mind and quick-witted humor served him well through his 87 years. He excelled at academics and achieved a law degree at Syracuse University. While at Syracuse University he was President of Phi Delta Phi fraternity, and a member of the Moot Court during his senior year. Graduating in the 97th percentile, he quickly passed through the ranks to become a partner at MacKenzie Hughes LLP. He was past Chairmen of the Real Property Section of the New York State Bar, representing about 5000 Real Property attorneys. He was for many years Chairman of the Marcellus Planning Board. Upon returning from World War II, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Janocsko, and raised his children on Limeledge Road in Marcellus, New York, establishing a bucolic environment for his family, complete with rolling hills and horses. He was very industrious and carpentry became a passion. His children fondly recall him building stalls in the horse barn at Ledgewood Farm. Services: Private burial with military honors will be at Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
