Obituary of James L. Day
James Leigh Day, 76, of Syracuse passed away after a courageous battle with cancer with his daughter and sister at his side. Born in Dayton, OH on December 3, 1947 he lived most of his life in Syracuse. Jim served in the US Navy during Vietnam. He worked as a construction superintendent often travelling the United States. Jim was an avid golfer, he loved to build and help anyone with a construction project. He was a member of the Buckley Road Baptist Church and had an unwavering faith in God. Jim was always giving, quick witted, always had a smile, and was a person of great strength and will.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Martha Day; and his best friend, Fred Johnson.
Survivors: daughters, Danielle Day (Paul) Schermerhorn; Michelle Day; sister, Dorre Day; brother, Edward Day Jr.; beloved grandchildren, Ashleigh and Matthew Schermerhorn; two nieces, Greta Back and Leighanne Clendenin; great niece, Ellie Back; his longtime friend and Pastor, Dan Smith.
Services with military honors, 11am Thursday, October 10, at Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery Chapel.
