Obituary of Louis A. Scrimale

Louis (Lou) A. Scrimale, 86 of Syracuse, NY, passed away on February 25, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. Lou was born in 1938 in Pittson, PA and was the youngest of Edward and Grace Scrimale’s 6 children. He later settled with his family in Solvay, NY where he spent most of his youth.

After high school, Lou served in the United State Army Reserves. Upon his return he began his bowling career at Solvay Recreation where he worked as a pin boy. He soon became known to his friends in the bowling circuit as “Louie the Kid”. Lou was an exceptional, competitive bowler, winning numerous individual and team titles in the Greater Syracuse Area. His passion for bowling continued well into his adult life competing in ABC championship team tournaments; where he rolled hundreds of 700 series and owned multiple 300 games. In 1984 he captured the New York State Title and was also inducted into the New York State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991.

Lou worked his entire career as an independent painting contractor. He was very meticulous when it came to his role and his clients appreciated his quality work. Lou had the same level of devotion to detail in life as well: His faith in God, his love of family, and his guidance to his children on how to live life. 

Lou’s guidance to the family and anyone who knew him came from his “gift of gab”. Lou could deftly weave in his quick-witted sense of humor on all topics far and wide. He thrived on having an audience where he could deliver his passionate dissertations. Lou loved being around people and would light up a room with his charisma.

Survivors include his four daughters, Christine (Eric Austvold), Gina (Brian Steighner), Andrea (Chris Porter), Shelli (David Pykon), and two stepsons, Jerry (Karen) Femano, Anthony (Kimberly) Femano and fourteen grandchildren; Mitchell, Grace and Abigail Austvold, Ariana and Chloe Steighner, Andrew and Daniel Porter, Joseph, Christopher, Sophia and Michael Femano, and Nicholas, Jessica and Matthew Femano. 

He is predeceased by his wife of 20 years, Pauline (DeMasi) Scrimale; two sisters, Frances Miceli and Barbara Baranello; and three brothers, Joseph, Charles and Anthony Scrimale. 

Calling hours will be 4 to 7pm Thursday, February 29, at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Friday, March 1, at St. Charles Church, 501 S Orchard Rd, Syracuse, NY. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
