Eddie and I were good friends during his years at Marist from 1967 thru 1970. We lost touch for a while but he came out to visit my wife and I when we lived in Rhode Island in the late 70s.
Eddie was very bright - and had a unique sense of humor that was present every day I talked to him. We would often walk to class together and have dinner together - there was a small group of about 8 or 10 of us that were very close. I did not see him senior year - I assume he elected to stay in Syracuse - but in those days there was no internet or cell phones - so we kind of just fell out of touch. I always enjoyed time spent with Eddie and I can imagine how much the family must miss him. -
I met his mom and probably one or more of the brothers that were closer in age to Eddie - when they came to pick Eddie up for winter break. I don't remember if I met them in Poughkeepsie or in Albany NY where i lived at the time...
I thought I had posted a similar message a few weeks ago - but did not see it listed...So posting again.
Anyway - I can be reached by E mail george.dawsonelli70@gmail.com or by phone 847-971-9668 if there is interest in sharing any more information about Eddie...

I found a picture of Uncle Ed when we were out playing golf. He had an incredible swing and always a perfect follow through. He was an amazing player and a great teacher of the game.
When my brothers and I were teenagers and showed an interest in learning, he took us under his wing. We used his hand me down clubs and practiced in the yard. He took us to the driving range and to play 9 holes whenever he had a chance. We looked up to him and wanted to hit shots like he could. We all became completely hooked on golf.
He was a very observant but patient teacher. Always knowing the right tip to give at the right time. This all lead to many years of great rounds of golf with him and my siblings that I will never forget. I know that for the rest of my life, whenever I get out on the course I will be thinking about him and all the good times we had.

I, along with Louise and our son, John were saddened to hear of Edward’s passing. For so long he was in my daily prayers for the living. Now he has moved on to his just reward and will take his proper place on my list of the beloved departed. I still hold the title of the oldest member of the Whiteside family which I learned at young Mary’s wedding. That was quite a good time for me as I hadn’t seen my cousins for quite some time. This was one of the most joyous visits of our time. It was a pleasure to see how successful each family member was. Everyone was so welcoming to us. After the wedding we departed to a local motel where, because of the storm the atmosphere was like a scene from an old, comic, horror movie. Sharing some wine by flashlight! Hearing stories about the family. Too bad it came to a close. Thanks for the memories that we all shared. Ed lives on in all of your hearts, as we all journey through life. We will all meet again one day. May Ed rest in peace. God bless all of you in his tender loving care. Love Cousin Ernie, Louise, John and Kelly.

Uncle Ed had a most generous heart. He put a lot of care and thought into his gifts and was always willing to help. When I was a teenager, I can't remember exactly what year. I wanted to buy my mom a nice piece of jewelry for Mother’s Day. I had a bit of my own money. I earned a little bit babysitting for the Mogish’s who had moved into Mrs. Osterhout’s house two doors down and I counted the Church collections on Sundays with Grandma. But, I had no idea how much nice jewelry cost, and my ambitions greatly outpaced my earning potential. Grandma, probably new about my plan and told Uncle Ed about it. He took me shopping and added some of his money to mine so together we could get my mom a sapphire and diamond ring, which I could never have afforded on my own. I chose sapphire because it is blue and that is her favorite color.
Uncle Ed always took time to help guide me when I was younger. At fifteen, he took me out to a giant empty parking lot and taught me how to drive his maroon Honda Accord, which was a stick shift. He was a pretty patient teacher and not too concerned about my grinding the gears getting into first. When I got into college and was driving my own car, every time he saw me, he checked my oil, ensured my tires were inflated, and had good tread on them. I saw him take similar care of my cousins, and it was a great comfort to know that Ed was there and always ready and willing to help as much as he could. He made it crystal clear that he loved you and cared about you. He wasn’t shy about letting his feelings show. He had the best laugh and that is what I miss most.

The first car that my brother, Ed owned was a Volkswagon Beetle in a light green color. He drove it with a friend, Patrick K. all the way to California. Unfortunately, it broke down and he had to spend a lot of his vacation money on the repairs which cut down on his plans for sightseeing in CA. He said that he had a lot of fun anyway.

When Ed was a young teenager, he had a large paper route in our Fairmount Hills neighborhood. One of his first purchases with the money he had earned from the route was a beautiful transistor radio with a tan leather case. It was a prized possession and the rest of us were told not to touch it. He loved to listen to the latest rock and roll music on it. Here are pictures of how I remember what it looked like.
