Obituary of J. George Fyffe

J. George Fyffe, 93, of Central Square, NY, passed away after a short illness at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY, George grew up with aunts, uncles, and an abundance of cousins. George went on to finish high school in Delhi, NY while enjoying hours on the family farm.

After George’s time in the US Army immediately following graduation, his desire to learn led him to obtain a Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, a Master’s in Business Administration from SUNY Binghamton, and a Masters of Divinity from Gonzaga University. George worked for Western Electric for several years before becoming a Civil Service Investigator. Following his time in the workforce, George lived as a brother with the Cistercian Monks at the Abbey of the Genesee, in Piffard, NY, for 16 years. 

George had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge which encouraged his passion for reading and lifelong love of learning. He enjoyed taking Sunday trips to Delhi with his family, playing the trumpet, and settling into a Friday night with a fish sandwich followed by a bowl of vanilla ice cream. 

George was proceeded in death by his parents, George and Marion (Fallon) Fyffe.

George is survived by his sister Dorothy (Don) Eisenhart and her three children; and his children Ronald Fyffe, Teresa Secreti, Thomas (Dina, Vicky) Fyffe, Allan (Kelly) Fyffe, Daniel (Maureen) Fyffe, Rebecca Fyffe, Katherine Fyffe, Mark (Dawn) Fyffe, James (Sue) Fyffe, Elizabeth (Randy) DeSocio, Christine (Vincent) Morgillo, and their mother June Beverly Collins Fyffe (died in 2018). In addition, there are 28 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren who had the pleasure of enjoying their grandfather’s company for many years.

Calling hours will be 2pm  to 4pm Monday, March 27, at the home of Thomas Fyffe, 305 Kinne Street, Syracuse, NY 13206.

Requiem Mass will be 10 am Tuesday, March 28, at Transfiguration Church, 740 Teall Ave, Syracuse. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Minoa, NY.
