Obituary of Sister Jane Patrick Lubey, OSF
Sister Jane Patrick (Jean Margaret) Lubey, OSF went home to God on February 20, 2022 at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, NY. Sister was 92 years of age and had been a Sister of St. Francis for 69 years. She was born in Utica, NY to Daniel and Jane Dowd Lubey. Sister was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Utica, NY. She graduated from Whitesboro Central High School and received her Nursing Diploma from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Utica, NY. In 1951, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Syracuse, NY and Jean Margaret was invested with the Franciscan habit in 1952.
Sister Jane Patrick received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC., and a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Sister served remarkably well as a nurse, administrator, and Superior for 18 years at Mercy Hospital in Auburn, NY, and as Assistant Administrator and Vice-President at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica, NY for 28 years. As part of the Spiritual Care Services, Sister started the Patient Advocate Program for the St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Department. Sister last served as a Prayer Minister at the Franciscan Villa.
Sister Jane Patrick will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her for her generosity, her dedication and devotion to her Franciscan Community, for her caring, compassion, thoughtfulness, and untiring energy in helping her sisters and those in need. She was always willing to go the extra mile to be of assistance.
Sister was predeceased by her parents, her brother Daniel Lubey; cousins, Deanna (Ed) Curzydlo and Daryl Miner.
She is survived by the Sisters of St. Francis and cousins Thomas (Barbara) Dowd, Clayton (Dale) Waiter and Anne Miner.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Franciscan Villa, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Livestream will be available starting at 10 am Monday, February 28 at facebook.com/TINDALLFH
