Obituary of Donald Raymond

Donald Allen Raymond “Snake” of Riverview, FL and Solvay, NY passed away at home on August 15, 2021 at the age of 77. Donald lived most of his life in Solvay, NY, graduated from Solvay High School, and obtained an Associates Degree at Onondaga Community College. He was a US Army Veteran of three years as a Personnel Specialist and received a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Badge. Donald worked for Will & Baumer Candle Co. for two years and for Carrier Corp. as an electrician and system repair technician for over thirty-nine years. He was a Mason for De Soto Lodge 105 F & AM, a member of the Local 527, a member of the I.I.S.A and a member of the Shriners International-Showmens Shrine Club. He enjoyed camping, hiking, cooking, watching sunsets, collecting baseball cards and was an avid bowler for many years at Solvay Bowling Lanes where he met his wife of thirty-one years and was the winner of the tv show Bowling for Dollars for over seven weeks consecutively. One of Donald’s favorite sayings was, “…kids are like jello, there is always room for jello.”, as he had eight children.
He is predeceased by his parents, Phillip (Elizabeth) Raymond and Pearl (Coe) Raymond; his son, Derek Umstead Jr.; his siblings, Karen Clay and Judy Walters; his mother-in-law, Lucy Hamilton; his daughter-in-law, Lauren Raymond; brother in law, Justin Maynard.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Hamilton) Raymond; his children, Mathew Raymond, Lisa Raymond, Tammy Raymond, Angela (Shannon) Umstead, Michael Raymond, Elizabeth (Richard) Hamilton, and Anthony (Faduma) Umstead; his ten grandchildren, Jessica, Katelyn, Zaric, Shane, Michalena, Felisha, Julia, Logan, Landon, and Eliza; his five great grandchildren; his siblings, James (Joyce) Raymond, Phyllis Maynard; his brother-in-law Ronald Clay; many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Services and military honors will be 6pm Wednesday August 25, at Tindall Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6pm Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home, 1921 W Genesee St. Masks will be required.
