To the Coulter Family~
Our deepest condolences in the loss of your beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother. What a gracious and outstanding presence she was in our community; reserved, yet cheerful, she elegantly accomplished so much in so many facets of our community, especially in the preservation of her family history. I have posted the following on the Schroeppel Historical Society Facebook page:
The Schroeppel Historical Society would like to acknowledge Joan Wood Coulter's unique contributions to our organization. Joan was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church before it became the Historical Society building. At the 100 Year Anniversary of the completion of St. John's in 2010, she and other former parishioners enjoyed sharing stories about their time at St. John's. Joan also brought along several scrapbooks related to her family' s business. As Joan and her husband Robert were preparing to move to Florida permanently, Joan donated some very interesting artifacts from Wood's Market to SHS collections, including a ledger, and numerous measuring implements from that era, many of them promotional, and inscribed with a Wood's logo, as well as a beautifully framed antique photo of an unnamed person. SHS members used the Wood's implements for an interactive Canal Day activity, in which participating 4th graders compared the accuracy of antique measuring devices with modern measuring tools. We very much appreciate Joan's dedication to marking and conserving her family's place in Phoenix history throughout her years.
