Obituary of Elizabeth C. Vertigan
Elizabeth "Liz" Vertigan, passed peacefully Wednesday at Francis House. Born in Detroit on May 9, 1928, she moved to Solvay where she grew up. Liz graduated from Solvay High School in 1946 and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1949. She was a proud member of the "49ers". Liz met her husband Erwin in 1946, they married in 1949, and moved to Camillus where she lived until her passing. She worked at Crouse Hospital retiring in 1992 after 21 years as an RN. She travelled a lot after her retirement and had many good memories from all her trips. When grandchildren came along, they all got baby blankets and when they grew up, the larger ones, and birthdays were always remembered with a card. The best times were spent with family and friends.
Liz was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Erwin in 1988.
Survivors: her children, Richard and Holly, Walter and Mary, Charles and Patrice, John and Mary Jo, Robert and Matt Backus; 9 granddaughters, 7 great grandchildren; many cousins and friends. Thanks to Dr. Blanchfield for his care over the years and Carol and Nancy who were always there when Liz needed them, true friends.
Services: Due to the pandemic, services and burial in Greenlawn Cemetery will be private for family.
