Obituary of Edward J. McCarthy
Edward J. McCarthy, 81, of Lakeland, NY, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2019. Ed was born in Syracuse and was a proud graduate of Syracuse University and a life-long fan of SU sports. He served in the US Army Reserves. Ed shared his love of horses with his family and competed successfully on the national stage garnering numerous National Championship honors with his miniature horses. He won his final National Championship in 2018 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the American Miniature Horse Registry in November 2018. He and his family were awarded the Sportsmanship Award at AMHR Nationals as well. He was a member of the Limestone Creek Hunt club, and a board member of the Empire State Arabian Horse Club and NYS Horse Breeders Association.
He is predeceased by his parents Leo and Anastasia McCarthy and his brother John (Maryanne).
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bonnie; his daughter, Michelle (Mike) Stolicker; his sons, Ed McCarthy and Mike (Traci) McCarthy; grandchildren, Aaron and Evan Stolicker and Lauren and Haley McCarthy; his brother, Leo (Lorraine) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 9:30 am Friday, October 18, 2019 at St Marianne Cope Parish: Our Lady of Peace Church, 203 Halcomb St. Lakeland, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lakeland. Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St.
