Decades ago, a letter crossed my desk at work, from someone I thought was a very young girl. The handwriting was broken and I figured this was someone who was just learning her penmanship. So I wrote back and asked how old the girl was, and she sent another letter informing me she was 24 and had been hit by a car when she was a 4. My heart sank and from that moment, I felt a special connection to Michielle. She wrote me letters, we spoke on the phone every week for many years. We went swimming at the Nottingham pool and we celebrated at MacDonald's when Michielle achieved a weight loss goal. She was such a joyful person, so quick to laugh a long laugh. Though I lost touch with Michielle when I lost my job and later, relocated to Massachusetts, I was happy to reconnect with her recently. I had no idea she was so ill. I consider it a gift that we exchanged emails, through her caregivers, in her final weeks. I am very sorry for the loss in your family that must feel like a hole in your hearts a mile wide. Michielle had an outsized personality that was impossible not to love. I pray she is comfortable, back in the company of her dad and of all her loved ones who are departed. Thank you for sharing this darling lady with me all these years. ---Maureen
