I worked with Starr at AURORA. She was passionate about her advocacy work, and I especially remember her intense focus on respecting the dignity of people with disabilities. She was also a very thoughtful friend. When I was leaving AURORA to move to Colorado she gave me a book of John Denver songs, with a lovely inscription inside, and had me and Laura Nickolai over to her house for a goodbye Chinese-takeout dinner. After I moved, she surprised me by sending some John Denver CDs. Throughout the seven years since my move she'd call with updates on the workplace and just to chat about our lives. Whenever I hear a John Denver song I still think of Starr. I'm glad that, if she had to go, it was quick and painless. To paraphrase John Denver, "she left yesterday behind her." Rest in peace, Starr.

To the family and friends of Starr Guckert always cherish the fond memories of time spent together and although you may grieve the Bible can be a source of comfort. At (Revelation 21:3,4) it speaks of a time when there will be no more sickness or death, also at (Acts 24:15) it speaks of a resurrection that we all can look forward to. May the peace and love of the God of all comfort be with you all. For more on the wonderful resurrection hope please visit jw.org and type in resurrection in the search tab.

My mother, Mrs. Gorman, worked closely with Allan and Starr back in the 1960's. She had a lot of respect for both of them. Unfortunately, she died before social media took off. Otherwise, I know that she would have been happy to hear about them both, and be so proud of Starr's accomplishments. Rest in Peace, Starr.

I first met Starr in 1989 and we worked together at Aurora for over 20 years. I was always amazed at how much she accomplished overcoming her limited vision. She was a very determined and motivating force.
25 years ago, we worked together to set up the low vision examination room at Aurora. I was dragging my feet on getting started, and Starr said: "So what are we going to do Bob? Fish...or just cut bait! I will never forget that.
We shared many laughs and meaningful moments.
She had a lot of knowledge on many subjects and always had something interesting to contribute to a conversation.
I know she is shaking things up in heaven. Goodbye, good friend.

My condolences to family and friends. Starr was always so eager to offer her
services and was helpful to anyone when it came to access issues in the community. She loved educating people about disability issues which was her life's passion. Her work will have a lasting impact in our community and we will miss her for years to come.

I worked with Starr for more than 5 years at Aurora, she was a friend as well as a colleague, she stayed connected with my daughter via Facebook as she navigated blind through a new area in California. Starr was such a knowledgeable person in many areas, but dynamite in advocacy for the blind. She will be terribly missed. It was tragic that she didn't get to enjoy her retirement for too long, but am sure she felt great about being able to see family over the holidays.

Hello. I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Starr for many years. I served as the Board Chairperson at Aurora of CNY for 4 years and still remain on the Board of Directors. Many, many times while at Aurora I would stop at her office to "chat". Having a daughter who is blind, Starr was an enormous help with dealing with a vision concern. So sorry to hear of her passing. Much too young to leave us. May you be resting now in peace Starr. John Scala
