Obituary of Curt D. Raszl

Curt D. Raszl April 19, 2012 Curt David Raszl passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Rosewood Health Center in Syracuse, NY, where he had been receiving hospice care for terminal lung cancer. He was 65. Curt was born to Jascah (Jackie) Mavis (Tower) Raszl and Gordon Frank Raszl on April 17, 1947 in Lockport, New York, one of two brothers. The Raszl family lived in Lockport until 1963 when Gordon moved the family business to Syracuse. In 1965 Curt left school and joined the US Marine Reserve in 1965 but subsequently earned a GED in the years following his military service. While in the Marines he won awards for shooting accuracy and physical fitness. In 1967 Curt married Gail Ann Girard. They had two children, Renee Christine and Erik David. Curt and Gail divorced in 1983. After Curt's two year active duty portion of his Marine Reserve commitment he held a variety of jobs. He worked with his father, Gordon, as a contractor in the family business, Kitchen and Bath Remodeling Center, located in Syracuse, NY. He also worked for Allwash of Syracuse, Inc. doing toxic cleanup and for Penny Electric of Syracuse as an electrician's helper. In 2003 he was placed on permanent disability related to work at Allwash and Penny Electric. In his retirement years he was able to assist his brother, Darryl, with the care of his father and mother prior to their deaths in 2004 and 2011. Curt loved hunting and fishing above all else. In addition, he shared a family fondness for pets and raised many cats and dogs over the years. He is survived by his brother Darryl Lee Raszl, M.D. of San Francisco, CA, his two children, Renee Christine and Erik David of Solvay, NY and seven grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for later this spring in Syracuse, NY, with subsequent burial of ashes at Cold Spring Cemetery in Lockport, NY.
