Sister Margarita Laterza January 26, 2012 Sister Margarita Laterza, 84, embraced death on Thursday, January 26 at Jolenta Convent. She was born in Bari, Italy to Andrea and Margarita Derobertis. She was a Sister of St. Francis for 56 years. Most of her ministry was spent in doing services in her religious community and in the hosting of visitors to the Franciscans Sisters Pension in Rome, Italy and at the Stella Maris Retreat Center in Skaneateles, NY. For more than 20 years she was the sacristan of St. Anthony Convent Chapel. Sister will always be remembered in the hearts of those who know and loved her as a devoted and dedicated member of our community and for her caring, compassion, conscientiousness and most gracious hospitality. She is survived by a brother, Sandro; two sisters, Antonia Urban and Julia Dembro and the Sisters of St. Francis. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, at St. Anthony Convent Chapel, 1024 Court St., Syracuse. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Convent Chapel prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Development Office, 1118 Court St., Suite #32, Syracuse, NY 13208.
