My condolences to Doc's family. He was a great prosecutor and a tremendous person. He was responsible for teaching multiple generations of prosecutors the right way to do the job, and his influence will last for decades to come. He will be greatly missed.

As a young cop in 1971 I had many cases in court with "Doc" A great man who was patient and taught us rookies a lot in preparing cases. Things I still use today. Shared many a joke with him and learned a lot.
Condolences to all the family.

As a young defense attorney, Doc was there to answer our questions just as he would answer the questions of the young ADAs in his office. He truly believed in justice and always strove to do what was right. He was a wonderful man and he will be missed.

I will always remember Doc with great thanks and affection. He was my first bureau chief in the Onondaga County DA's Office back in 1988. He taught me law, procedure, patience, balance and how to have fun when everything was in chaos. He encouraged all of us to have confidence in ourselves and our decisions. I am a better lawyer because of his support and encouragement. My deepest sympathies to Gail and the family.

Doc was an ICON in the DA's City Court Unit. Nothing phony about Doc. He was a straight shooter and added a "pinch" of humor to the job. When it came to City cases, Doc was the "go to man". Sorry to read of his passing, but he left his mark and was always there for us.

Doc was a man of true character and integrity. He was also a professional who was approachable to all. He used his position with sensibility and flexibility as each situation arose. He had a compassion for our humanness and used his powers of prosecution with great discretion. He was one of a kind and will be missed.

Dick was a participant in our Phase IV Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program until several months ago, when he notified staff his breathing was just too labored to continue. We will miss Dick, his gentle humor even in the face of his illness. He was always very pleasant and a real fighter, trying to live his life as independently as possible even though it was apparent he wasn't feeling well. Please accept our sincere condolences over Dick's death.

I am so sad to hear of Doc's passing. He was my mentor at the District Attorney's Office in the '90's when I was doing my paralegal internship there. He was an incredible teacher and had an exceptional sense of humor. Not only did Doc teach me the ins and outs of the law, he made my experience a truly enjoyable one. My deepest heartfelt sympathies to Doc's family.

Mrs. Lyons, you taught me at OCC (piano major). I worked my college summers at the DA's office. Your husband was one of the easiest guys to work for. Always had a sense of humour. I hope that you know that he made Onondaga County and the city a better place.
