Remembering The Departed At Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for festivities. People spend joyous moments with family and friends with lots of food and fun. They also reminiscence about their loved one who is no more with them but whose memories they cherish. People express their feelings about the departed at Thanksgiving in different ways. It is a time to unburden the heart of feelings of grief and loss.

Decorating The Grave Site

A visit to the person’s grave is an expression of emotional bonding with the person. Decorating the site with flowers that the deceased loved is a way to establish a connection. Reciting prayers and seeking the wellbeing of the person in his or her afterlife gives a sense of relief. Spending silent moments at the place can flood your thoughts with memories of the person and provide a sense of peace.

Place A Photo At The Dinner Table

Most people plan Thanksgiving dinner well in advance and give a lot of thought to the preparation and placement of food. Everyone present at the dinner also pays attention to the table setting and appreciates the efforts the host has taken to prepare the meal. Placing a photograph of your loved one, at the center of the food display, will attract everyone’s attention and is a nice way to keep the person’s memory alive.

Attend A Prayer Meeting

Remembrance prayers are held at churches, old age homes, and many other places in most neighborhoods. Attending these prayers is a quiet way to remember your loved one along with many others that have faced a similar loss. Donations offered on this occasion commemorate the memory of the deceased and serve a social cause.
